Terry Cook, selected as Administrator of the Year for 2008 has been an administrator for the past 16 years.
He has been and continues to be an active member of the Georgia Health Care Association, having served on the Board of Directors, Committee Chairman and is a Past President of the American College of Health Care Administrators. He also serves on the Georgia State Board of Nursing Home Administrators.
Terry has the unique ability to manage the day to day operation of the nursing home in a manner to garner the love and respect from the resident, their family members and all the staff. His goal is to always do what is right and best for all concerned. He always places the resident and staff first in any decision that he makes.
Terry listens to their concerns, complaints, and yes, their praises. He finds it a joy to know everyone by name and their family members name as well.
A family member writes: “My 35 year old son was in a motorcycle accident that left him with many severe injuries including traumatic brain injury. He was transferred from Grady to McRae Manor, a 3 ½ drive from his family. We went unknowingly as to what the future would hold for us. When we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms. The following day we were notified that there was a problem and my son was being admitted to the local hospital, he was diagnosed with pneumonia. I could not leave my son, even though I knew he was in good hands.
Mr. Cook told me that if I needed anything, all I had to do was ask. I lost my job during this time. Mr. Cook allowed me a room at the nursing home, to be close to my son. Through all of this 10 ½ months, not one person has been as caring and understanding as Terry Cook. He has fed me at no charge; I have slept at McRae Manor at no charge. As far as Mr. Cook goes , he is one in a million, the true “Southern Hospitality” slogan is in this man. He's almost as the “Energizer Bunny”, he keeps going and going and giving and giving. He has made my tragedy into a small bump in the road. His heart is so much bigger than words can say. I know I will never be able to repay him nor his staff for all the help they have given to me and my family. If all nursing facilities were managed like this one or had Mr. Cook as the administrator, there would not be such of a hard decision to place a family member in them. I am eternally grateful.”
It is an honor and privilege to present to you the Administrator of the Year 2008
